After three years as Senior ESL Instructor at the Tokyo head office of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Matt returned to Canada to commence a career as a golf instructor in 1990. "My goal was to combine my two passions, teaching and golf."

Matt started as an Assistant Professional at the Arnold Palmer designed Whistler Golf Club, and was teaching full-time by 1992. Moving to the newly opened Big Sky Golf Academy in 1994, he continued to focus on golf instruction and custom club-fitting and ultimately became the Director of Instruction. By 2000, Big Sky was selected as the Top Golf Academy in Canada by Golf Ranking Magazine.

In the winter of 2001, Matt opened an indoor teaching studio in the Resort of Whistler. "Martial Arts students train using mirrors for the visual feedback of their positions and movements. Video training allows golfers to get the same benefits." It didn't take long to see the improvements students were making to convince Matt that indoor training was for real. By the fall of 2002, he joined the Urban Links team and helped to develop the Inside-out Program.
